- music: steve tyrell . world on a string
took the parents and tin to the steve tyrell concert at the center tonight. it was pretty good. my parents and i enjoyed it. tin on the other hand, was bored 3 songs into it. poor girl. but then, she's never really been into that kind of music, unlike me, who grew up with it. our dad would drive me to school playing oldies on the radio every morning, for pretty much most of my childhood. i think thats why i've got a really eclectic taste in music. i've picked up stuff that he listened to, and stuff that was around at the time i was growing up.
music has always been my biggest frustration. i mean, i love music. i can listen to classical, hip hop, trance, oldies, pop, alternative rock, broadway, etc. you name it. there are some i'd listen to more than others, but i will listen to anything at any point in time depending on my mood. i'm more partial to oldies and sentimental music though.
but i digress. its my biggest frustration because i can't do anything remotely related to music. in other words, i can't contribute. make sense? i can play the piano, but i'm so out of practice having not played in 6 years that i can't read sheet music very well. i can play the guitar, but i haven't played in so long that the 2, maybe 3, songs that i can actually play in full i've forgotten the chords to. my biggest frustration, however, is that i can't sing. it sucks. once upon a time, i was told that i had a good singing voice. i dunno if they were actually complimenting me, if it was just a good moment, or if they were trying to get me to stop. most of my family, on the macabuhay side, are very good singers. its the cebuano blood in that side. so i'm blaming my mom's genes 'coz we're the only branch of the family that didn't produce singers. ::sigh:: life can be so unfair at times.
on a kinda, sorta related note, i want to buy the parents a magic mic. i thought about trying to get it for them for christmas, but i don't think that's doable. maybe for a birthday or their anniversary. of course, i'm gonna use it too. heh.
i still haven't started my christmas shopping. i've got my gift list though, and have scoped out prices and locations where i can buy the stuff i want. so i'm at least a little prepared and organized. i need to pay bills first and wait for the next pay check.
frickin' bills man! my car registration is due on dec 22nd. doesn't that just suck? what bad timing.
