note to self: learn how to play softball.

i have never been very athletic. i think the last time i ever willingly participated in a sport was during sophomore year in highschool when we were required to play different sports for our p.e. class. we had volleyball, basketball, badminton and base football (or as it's called here, kickball). if i remember right, junior year was social dancing (waltz, swing, boogie, etc.) and senior year was philippine folk dances (don't ask me, i don't know why either). i may have gotten that backwards.

i did social dancing again at uplb for p.e. and the required p.e. 1 (lecture) class. i wouldn't have had to take any p.e. classes again because i fulfilled my required number of units for it.

i've taken a couple of p.e. classes at community college here, but none are sports related. i don't even remember what classes those are.

i took swimming lessons when i was younger and discovered i had an affinity for it. i was urged by my coach to go into competitive swimming but i wasn't too enthusiastic about it mainly because i didn't want to stress myself with competitions and training, and i wanted time to just relax after school. if you're not familiar with the philippine school system, we pretty much spend about 8 hours on campus for classes minus a 15 minute recess in the morning and a 40 min-1 hour lunch around noon. that doesn't include the commute to and from school that could take anywhere from 30 mins to an hour, and the amount of time it takes to complete homework or projects that are given to us. so you can see why i wasn't too keen in picking up an extra curricular activity that would eat up my precious free time.

what brought this on? well, i felt bad not being able to help the guys out at softball today. i probably would've gone out, even in jeans, if they really needed someone to fill in. but i totally wouldn't have hit a ball and am sure i wouldn't have caught anything. i just don't think i have the coordination for sports. and being the perfectionist that i am, i would've been really hard on myself at being such an embarrassment.

resolution? i've asked joes to teach me how to catch and to take me to the batting cages. i grew up playing patintero, taguan (hide and seek) and mataya-taya (tag) so i've never played catch. just watch, i'm gonna be awesome. (don't you dare laugh, sister.)

its possible. heck, i'm surprised i took to snowboarding as well as i have. shows that there's room for improvement, right?

so i have resolved to be more active and open to athletics. we'll see how that works out. wish me luck!
